The Crown Act is more than an acknowledgment of a trend in popular culture, but a  contemporary Civil Rights Act. The Crown Act’s mission is to “Create a Respectful and Open  World for Natural Hair.” At Exotic Textures, WE LOVE IT!! 

The CROWN Act was created in 2019 by Dove and the CROWN Coalition, in partnership with  then State Senator Holly J. Mitchell of California, to ensure protection against discrimination  based on race-based hairstyles by extending statutory protection to hair texture and protective  styles such as braids, locs, twists, and knots in the workplace and public schools. 

As of February 2023, versions of the CROWN Act have been enacted in nineteen states:  Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts,  Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Tennessee,  Virginia, and Washington.
